QUÉBEC, March 19, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - The Québec City Convention Centre, in collaboration with the City of Québec, is pleased to announce that the second World Congress on Mid- and High-rise Wood Buildings will be held in Québec City in the fall of 2019. From September 30 to October 4, Woodrise 2019 will bring together wood construction stakeholders, decision-makers, and professionals to share their knowledge and strengths in order to position wood as a leading construction material for tomorrow's sustainable cities.
The event is expected to attract over 1,000 international attendees, including some 20 delegations, who will gather to hear keynote speakers and experts in the field discuss topics such as seismic risk prevention and fire safety in wood buildings, the impact of wood on quality of life and comfort, and emerging markets.
The theme for Woodrise 2019 is "Building our cities for future generations" and has been jointly organized by FPInnovations (Canada) and Institut technologique FCBA (France). The first congress, held in 2017 in Bordeaux, France, was a huge success, helping to raise the city's international profile.
"As the world opens up to new renewable and clean energies, wood from sustainably managed forests will play an increasingly important role. That's why we're investing strategically today in areas such as high-rise wood buildings and the emerging bio-economy to ensure that Canada continues to lead the world in forestry well into the future."
Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Natural Resources, Canada
"Sustainable management of Québec's forests and the products they generate are our main priorities. Developing innovative wood products and projects spurs Québec's economic growth and helps in the fight against climate change. That's why we're proud to join with FPInnovations and the other partners of Woodrise 2019 to promote responsible development that will be a source of pride for future generations."
Pierre Dufour, Minister of Forests, Wildlife and Parks
"Woodrise 2019 will bring together international experts in wood construction and provide an exceptional platform for networking and discussing technological and commercial issues. FPInnovations is pleased to help bring such an event to Canada and demonstrate our commitment to solutions that will shape the future of our built environment with a view to sustainable development."
Stéphane Renou, President and CEO, FPInnovations
"This second congress is another testament to the strong collaboration between FCBA and FPInnovations. Following Woodrise 2017 in Bordeaux, we're pleased to see that Woodrise is here for the long haul as a leading international event in wood construction."
Patrick Molinié, Institut Technologique FCBA – Creator of Woodrise 2017
"We're proud to host major conferences like Woodrise 2019, which show that the Québec City Convention Centre is a premier venue for showcasing the knowledge and expertise of high-performance industries."
Pierre-Michel Bouchard, President and CEO, Québec City Convention Centre
