To subscribe to an RSS feed

RSS (Really Simple Syndication, Rich Site Summary or RDF Site Summary) is a method of disseminating information over the Internet. It is used on sites whose content is regularly updated:

  • information feeds: general news, blogs, sports results;
  • discussion feeds: forums, blog commentaries;
  • classified ads: job offers, real estate ads, auctions;
  • follow-ups: wiki sites, bug managers.


An RSS feed allows subscribers to be informed of site updates.

How to subscribe?

To subscribe to an RSS feed, you must first install a software program commonly known as an "RSS reader" or "Content aggregator". There are dozens of RSS readers. Some, which are accessible via a web browser, are easy to install and are free. Others are autonomous desktop applications offered free of charge or on a fee basis. A search using the keywords "rss reader" will yield several useful links. 

The sites offered by an RSS reader generally display the following icon: 

To add a feed to your list of subscriptions, simply click on this icon to display the RSS feed and copy the feed’s URL (http://www...)  address into the appropriate field of the RSS reader.
